چکیده
Abstract Human decision-making is affected by a diversity of factors including material cost–benefit considerations, normative and cultural influences, learning conformity with peers external authorities (e.g. cultural, religious, political, organisational). Also important are dynamically changing personal perceptions the situation beliefs about actions expectations others as well psychological phenomena such cognitive dissonance social projection. To better understand these processes, I develop unifying modelling framework describing joint dynamics attitudes individuals their groupmates. consider which norms get internalised control others. predict that long-term average characteristics groups largely determined balance between payoffs values promoted authority. Variation around averages reflects variation in individual costs benefits mediated characteristics. The efforts an authority to change group behaviour certain direction can, counter-intuitively, have opposite effect on behaviour. how various can affect differences societies tightness/looseness norms. show most heterogeneity, societal threat, effects authority, degree collectivism/individualism, population size subsistence style. My results be useful for achieving understanding human historical current developing more efficient policies aiming modify

Can Superstitious Beliefs Affect Market Equilibrium? Personal Beliefs and Beliefs about Others
We investigate whether superstitious beliefs held directly by only a fraction of the population affect market equilibrium. Using data from multiracial Singapore, we find that apartments whose unit numbers end with 8, an auspicious number for Chinese, are sold at 0.9% premium, whereas those that end with 4, an inauspicious number for Chinese, are sold at 1.5% discount. The discount for inauspici...
متن کاملActions, Norms, Subactions and Kernels of (Fuzzy) Norms
In this paper, we introduce the notion of an action $Y_X$as a generalization of the notion of a module, and the notion of a norm $vt: Y_Xto F$, where $F$ is a field and $vartriangle(xy)vartriangle(y') =$ $ vartriangle(y)vartriangle(xy')$ as well as the notion of fuzzy norm, where $vt: Y_Xto [0, 1]subseteq {bf R}$, with $bf R$ the set of all real numbers. A great many standard mappings on algebr...
متن کاملSharing beliefs about actions
We consider a strategic situation in which each player may not know the probability distribution governing the information structures of his opponents, and consequently his beliefs about opponents' action choices are represented by a set of probability measures. Suppose that beliefs of all the players are common knowledge. Then for any subset of players, the marginal beliefs of those players (a...
متن کاملArguing about beliefs and actions
Decision making under uncertainty is central to reasoning by practical intelligent systems, and attracts great controversy. The most widely accepted approach is to represent uncertainty in terms of prior and conditional probabilities of events and the utilities of consequences of actions, and to apply standard decision theory to calculate degrees of belief and expected utilities of actions. Unf...
